Is your laptop feeling a bit sluggish lately? Maybe it struggles when you have too many browser tabs open or takes forever to load your favorite applications. Before you consider buying a new machine, one of the most effective and affordable upgrades you can make is installing more RAM. It sounds technical, but with a little guidance, it’s a project many people can handle themselves.
What You’ll Need to Get Started
First, let’s gather our tools. You’ll need a new RAM stick that’s compatible with your specific laptop model. You can usually find this information on the manufacturer’s website or by using a system scanner tool from a memory retailer. The other essential item is a small Phillips head screwdriver. An anti-static wrist strap is a good safety precaution, but simply touching a metal part of the laptop’s chassis (like a port) while it’s unplugged and shut down can also discharge any static from your body.
Preparing Your Laptop for the Upgrade
Safety first! Completely shut down your laptop and unplug it from the power outlet. Remove the battery if it’s easily removable. Finding and Opening the RAM Compartment
