Getting your character to move smoothly is the very first step to enjoying the vast worlds of Roblox. Whether you’re building an obby, roleplaying with friends, or just checking out a new game, knowing how to navigate with your keyboard is essential. If you’re playing on a laptop, the controls are straightforward, but a few tips can make you a true movement master.
The Basic Keyboard Controls for Movement
Roblox on a laptop uses the classic “WASD” keys for movement, which is standard for many PC games. Pressing the W key will move your character forward, while the S key moves you backward. To strafe or move sideways, you’ll use the A key for left and the D key for right. Your mouse is your best friend for looking around and changing the direction your character is facing. It might feel a little awkward at first, but with a bit of practice, moving and looking will become second nature.
Beyond Walking: Running and Jumping
Simply walking isn’t always enough. To pick up the pace, just press and hold the Shift key while moving to sprint. This is perfect for getting across large maps quickly or escaping a tricky situation. And what’s an adventure without jumping? Press the Spacebar to make your character leap over obstacles, onto platforms, or just for fun. Remember, timing your jumps is often more important than just spamming the spacebar.
Using Your Mouse for Better Control
Your mouse does more than just let you look around. By default, you interact with the world by clicking on it. A left-click is often used to select items, use tools, or perform a primary action. A right-click can sometimes be used for a secondary action or to bring up a menu. You can also use the mouse wheel to zoom your camera in and out, giving you a better view of your surroundings.
Adjusting Your Settings for Comfort
If the default controls don’t feel quite right, don’t worry! Roblox allows you to change them. Click the menu button at the top-left of the screen (it looks like three lines) and select Settings. From there, go to the Controls tab. Here, you can rebind any key to an action that feels more comfortable for you. Some players even change their movement keys to the arrow keys if that’s what they prefer.
