The best tool for the job is a plastic spudger or a flat-edged guitar pick. If you don’t have those, you can carefully use a small, flat-head screwdriver, but be sure to wrap the tip in a bit of tape to cushion it. You’ll also want a small container to hold the key and any tiny clips so they don’t get lost.
The Gentle Art of Popping a Key Off
Most laptop keys are held on by a simple plastic clip mechanism. Start by turning off your laptop to prevent any electrical issues. Gently slide your tool under the top edge of the keycap. Apply a small amount of upward pressure until you hear or feel a faint pop. The key should now be loose.
