A plastic spudger from an electronics kit is ideal, but a guitar pick or even a credit card can work in a pinch. Avoid metal tools like screwdrivers, as they can easily scratch your laptop’s surface or crack the fragile keycap. A pair of tweezers can also be helpful for the next steps.
The Gentle Art of Popping a Key Off

Gently press down on the keycap, starting with the top edge, until you hear a satisfying click on all sides. Test the key to make sure it presses down smoothly and registers correctly.
