Taking a screenshot is one of those simple tasks that can sometimes feel confusing, especially when you’re new to a Chromebook. The good news is that capturing what’s on your screen is incredibly straightforward, and you have a few different methods to choose from. Whether you need to save an entire webpage or just a small portion of it, your Chromebook has you covered.
The Quickest Way: Keyboard Shortcuts
For most people, keyboard shortcuts are the fastest way to take a screenshot. The method changes slightly depending on what you want to capture. To take a screenshot of your entire screen, simply press the Ctrl + Show windows keys. The Show windows key looks like a rectangle with two lines next to it and is usually located in the top row. Your screen will dim briefly, and the image will be saved automatically in your “Downloads” folder.
Capturing Just a Part of Your Screen
What if you only need a snippet of an image or a specific section of a webpage? Chromebooks make this easy, too. Press Ctrl + Shift + Show windows. Your cursor will change into a crosshair. Click and drag to select the rectangular area you wish to capture. When you release the mouse button, that selected portion will be saved as a new image file in your “Downloads” folder.
Using the Quick Settings Menu
If you prefer using the touchpad or touchscreen, the Quick Settings menu is a great alternative. Click on the time, battery, and Wi-Fi area in the bottom-right corner of your screen to open it. In the menu that appears, look for the “Screen Capture” icon, which looks like a circle inside a square. Clicking it gives you options to capture a full screen, a partial region, or even a specific window.
Finding and Using Your Screenshots
After you take a screenshot, a notification will pop up in the corner of your screen. By default, all your screenshots are saved in the “Downloads” folder. You can click on the notification to immediately view, edit, or share the image. For quick edits like cropping or adding annotations, the built-in Gallery app is a handy tool that opens directly from the notification.
With these simple methods, you can easily capture and save anything on your Chromebook’s screen. It’s a powerful skill that helps with work, school, or just sharing something fun you found online.
