The Easiest Way: Sharing Between Apple Devices
If both your phone and your friend’s laptop are Apple devices, you’re in luck. This method is incredibly seamless. First, make sure your iPhone’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on, and that you are saved as a contact in your friend’s laptop. On their Mac, simply click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar and select your network. A prompt will appear on your iPhone—just tap “Share Password,” and the password will be sent directly to the Mac. It’s a quick, secure handoff that requires no typing at all.
Using a QR Code on Android and Windows
For everyone else, the QR code method is your best friend. Many modern Android phones have a built-in feature to generate a QR code for your current network. You can usually find this in your Wi-Fi settings under the network name. On a Windows laptop, your friend can simply open their camera app—if it has a QR code scanner built-in—or use a dedicated scanner app. Pointing the camera at the code will instantly provide the option to connect to the network without ever seeing the password.
Finding Your Password on a Windows Computer
If you’re already connected to the Wi-Fi on your Windows laptop and need to share the password, you can find it within the system.
