Knowing your laptop’s exact model number is more useful than you might think. Whether you’re looking for a specific driver update, troubleshooting an issue with tech support, or trying to sell your device, having this information on hand is essential. It’s the key to finding compatible parts and the right support information for your specific machine.
If you’re not sure where to find it, don’t worry. It’s usually printed on the device itself, but there are also a few simple ways to find it using your computer’s built-in system tools.
Check the Physical Laptop
The quickest way is often to look at the laptop itself. Flip it over and look for a sticker or etched writing on the bottom case. This label typically includes the manufacturer, the full model name, and a serial number. Sometimes, the model information is also found around the screen’s bezel, on the palm rest below the keyboard, or inside the battery compartment if it’s removable.
Use the System Information Tool
If the sticker is worn off or you can’t turn the laptop around, Windows has a built-in tool that can help. Simply press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box. Type msinfo32 and press Enter. This opens the System Information window. Look for the lines labeled System Manufacturer and System Model. The information listed here will give you exactly what you need.
A Quick Look in System Settings
For a faster, more basic view, you can also check your system settings. Click the Start button, then go to Settings > System, and scroll down to About. On this page, you’ll see your device specifications, including the Device name and often the model listed under the device name or in the system details section.
Using a Simple Command Prompt
If you’re comfortable with a command line, this method is very straightforward. Type cmd in the Windows search bar to open the Command Prompt. Then, type the following command and press Enter: wmic csproduct get name. The line that appears will show your laptop’s model name directly.
With these methods, you should be able to locate your laptop model in just a minute or two. It’s a small piece of information that makes managing your technology much smoother.
