Resetting your laptop can feel like a big step, but it’s often the most effective way to clear out clutter and resolve persistent software issues. Before You Reset: Protect Your Files
The most important step happens before you even begin the reset. A full reset will erase your personal files, so a backup is essential. Copy your documents, photos, and any other important data to an external hard drive or a cloud storage service. Also, make sure your laptop is plugged into a power source to prevent any interruptions during the process.
Choosing the Right Reset Option
Windows provides two main reset paths, and knowing the difference is key. You can access both by going to Settings > System > Recovery. Look for the option that says “Reset this PC.”

From the blue screen, select Advanced options > Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.

Once you select your reset option, you may be asked if you want to do a “Cloud Download” or a “Local Reinstall.” The cloud download is often faster and can be more reliable, as it fetches a fresh copy of Windows from Microsoft’s servers. The local reinstall uses files already on your device.
